TNS Essential Serum

TNS Essential Serum contains a wide variety of ingredients which they have categorized into 4 groups:  Growth Factors, Extracellular Matrix Building, Antioxidants, and Specialty Ingredients.  Below is a list of their ingredients in detail:

  1. Growth Factors

Human Fibroblast Conditioned Media:  The Human Fibroblast Conditioned Media is a distinctive product which takes advantage of the numerous tissue factors.  It further allows these tissues to interact with each other in one solution.
  2. Extracellular Matrix Building

Dipalmitoyl Hydroxyproline:  Dipalmitoyl Hydroxyproline is a plant-derived amino acid which works to prevent the synthesis of enzymes involved in the extracellular matrix degradation (Matrix Metalloproteinases or MMPs) by encouraging the production of Tissue Inhibitors of Metalloproteinase (TIMPs) which help combat the skin’s aging process.
    Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5:
Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 is a peptide sequence that activates the Tissue Growth Factor (TGF-beta) which is the main factor in generating collagen.

Hydrolyzed Silk, Phospholipids, Butylene Glycol and Water:  The silk peptides are encapsulated in liposomes which are absorbed by the skin cells.  The combination of these peptides work to stimulate the production of hyaluronic acid and collagen to enhance skin tone and texture.  It further inhibits tyrosinase activity to reduce uneven skin pigmentation.
  3. Antioxidants

Ergothioneine (EGT):  EGT is a natural amino acid with super anti-oxidant properties that works in four ways to guard the skin cells from oxidative damage.  It hunts down reactive oxygen species, lessens UV-induced hydrogen peroxide, prevents the breakdown of extracellular matrix by restricting the increase of MMP-1 and reduces the inflammation.
    Ubiquinone (Coenzyme Q10):
Ubiquinone protects you against the UVA-induced effects of photoaging as well as the damage caused by free radicals.  It works well with Vitamin E to prevent damage to lipid membranes as well as plasma lipids.

Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate:  Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate is a stable, lipid-soluble ester form of Vitamin C which prevents skin aging by enhancing collagen production.  This ingredient lessens the appearance of hyperpigmentation and age spots.

Tocopheryl Acetate:  Tocopheryl Acetate is a stable ester form of vitamin E.  It is regarded as the most significant antioxidant and free radical scavenger.  It moisturizes the skin from within and improves skin smoothness.

Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract:  This extract provides a potent antioxidant property that protects cells from free radical damage initiated by environmental factors.  It likewise helps to reduce skin inflammation and irritation.

Rubus Fruticosus (Blackberry) Leaf Extract:  This extract has antioxidant properties which help fight the visible signs of aging.  It inhibits the MMPs thus preventing wrinkles to form.

Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate Lysate:  This is a yeast extract that when topically applied defends against the detrimental effect of ozone which has an ability to deplete antioxidants in the skin and improve the barrier function of the skin.
  4. Specialty Ingredients

Aminobutyric Acid:  Aminobutyric Acid serves to help relax muscles and nerves.

Hyaluronic Filling Spheres:  Hyaluronic Acid acts as a molecular sponge which enables the spheres to swell and exert pressure on the skin’s surface which results in a smoother skin.

Alpha-Arbutin:  Alpha-Arbutin is a Bearberry plant extract which provides a lightening effect on the skin by hindering the enzyme responsible for skin pigmentation (tyrosinase).

TNS Illuminating Eye Cream

The TNS Illuminating Eye Cream consists of the following ingredients:

  1. Human Fibroblast Conditioned Media (NouriCel-MD):  This includes a combination of multiple growth factors which are found naturally in healthy skin.  These include:  soluble collagen, antioxidants, interleukins and matrix proteins.
  2. Hydroxysuccinimide, Chrysin, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide and Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-3:  The combination of these ingredients reinforces and tones the skin around the eye area.  It also removes excess iron and other pigments that cause dark circles under and around the eyes.
  3. Bisabolol:  Bisabolol is derived from chamomile and works to soothe burns, inflammation as well as irritated skin.
  4. Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5):  Panthenol works to trap moisture on the surface of the skin layers and promote normal skin keratinization.  It is soothing, anti-inflammatory and stimulates cellular proliferation.

The TNS Essential Serum and Illuminating Eye Cream both have a good list of ingredients which are listed on their site.

While the TNS Essential Serum would work well on its own, we are of the belief that using the Illuminating Eye Cream would amplify the effects of the Essential Serum.  This is especially true to those who are experiencing some skin concerns around the eye area.

Another thing we like is that they provide free shipping to orders above $50 and free samples with every order.

To a regular reader, going through the list of the ingredients and reading what each ingredient does is a bit of work.  Despite our extensive background on beauty ingredients, we have to admit that we felt a bit lost when reading what each of their ingredients do.  We would have liked it better if the ingredients were discussed in an easier tone that could be easily understood by someone who do not have the necessary technical background.

Skin Medica is of the opinion that their products would work well under a physician’s supervision.  In this regard, no one can purchase their product unless a physician prescribes it.

Depending on how you look at it, this statement could go either way.  Some people would welcome this requirement as it appears more “scientific” while there may be others who may be put off with this requirement as the product becomes less convenient and even more expensive to try.

Due to this requirement, we have not given this product a try as we didn’t think that the extra step of visiting a physician was worth it.  Aside from the inconvenience, we also have to consider the extra cost of visiting one.
