How important is it to apply sunscreen 10 or 15 minutes ahead of time?

I know you’re supposed to give the sunscreen time to absorb or whatever, but how much does it reduce the effectiveness of sunscreen to apply it immediately before being in the sun?

The sunscreen will still work whether you put it on 15 minutes before going out or 15 seconds. 15 minutes however is ideal because it gives the skin time to absorb the product to better protect your skin from harmful UVA/UVB rays where as if you put it on 15 seconds before you’re going to have some increased exposure because it hasn’t had time to be absorbed.
